Kia Canada has reported unprecedented success in electric vehicle (EV) sales for May 2024, marking a significant milestone in the automotive industry’s shift towards sustainable transportation solutions.

Record-Setting Sales Figures

In May, Kia Canada sold 1,899 electric vehicles, representing a staggering 255% increase compared to May 2023. The EV6, Kia’s flagship electric model, led the charge with 887 units sold, followed by the EV9 with 515 units and the Niro EV with 497 units.

Canada-wide Performance

The surge in EV sales was observed across multiple provinces, with Quebec leading the way with a 352% increase. Other provinces also showed substantial growth:

  • British Columbia: 117% increase
  • Ontario: 113% increase
  • Alberta: 130% increase
  • New Brunswick: 283% increase

These figures indicate a growing acceptance of electric vehicles across diverse Canadian regions.

Year-to-Date Performance and Industry Context

Kia Canada’s year-to-date EV sales have reached 6,138 units, already achieving 78% of their total 2023 EV sales target. This performance builds on the success of 2022, which saw a 202% increase over 2021, with total EV sales reaching 7,883 units.

The rising popularity of electric vehicles is evident, with EVs now accounting for 23% of Kia Canada’s total sales in May. This trend aligns with the broader automotive industry’s move towards sustainability and reduced emissions.

Kia’s Strategy for Success

Kia attributes its success to several factors, including award-winning designs and advanced technology. Features such as ultra-fast charging capabilities are designed to meet the daily needs of Canadian consumers.

Elias El-Achhab, VP and COO of Kia Canada, commented on the company’s performance: “The continuous growth of our EV sales is demonstrating that the shift to a more sustainable future is indeed happening. With award-winning designs and future-proofed technology like ultra-fast charging, Kia EVs more than meet the daily lifestyle needs of Canadians.”
